Wooler and the College Valley

Well we have finally booked our summer holiday! After much discussion and having been spoilt for choice we chose the Hethpool Mill in the College valley. It's remote, isolated and quiet. We can take the dogs as well.

Also there is ancient history here with talk of people living here up to 7,000 years ago.

The walking is great as well, the Pennine way runs along the ridges and then down to Kirk Yetholm where it comes to an end.

When we come back i hope to bring lots of photographs and hopefully be able to show some of the attractions of this unique valley.

Finally a big thank you to Jon at Shepherd's walks for the walking brochures.

Pets on holiday

Over the years we have seen more and more visitors asking if they can bring their dog,or indeed dogs, with them on holiday. Fortunately more of our property owners are also dog lovers and we have quite a few holiday homes where pets are allowed. In fact at the last count we had 85 holiday homes where pets were welcome.

There are a few rules which we explain to our customers when talking about pets on holiday. Each property might have specific rules, for instance dogs only in the kitchen, or not in the bedrooms. Also we always ask if you can try your best to clear up any dog mess or hairs before you leave at the end of the holiday. Basically treat the house as you would your own, with consideration and care. That way our pets can continue to go on holiday!

Alnwick music festival and local accommodation.

Northumberland is a vibrant county. There are always locally organised festivals and carnivals throughout the year and one of these which always attracts much credit is the Alnwick music festival.

If you are interested in attending either the Playhouse in the evenings or just wandering the streets looking at the stalls and listening to the music then we have a few properties which might suite what you need.

We can offer accommodation for 2 in the Middle 'In.....directly opposite Alnwick Castle.

Also for those who like golf we have the Percy Wood Lodge, a log cabin on a golf course near Alnwick.

Plus of course many more houses close by Alnwick.

Self catering near Rothbury and in Coquetdale

Rothbury is probably most famous for the magnificent house and estate at Cragside . However the area is also an ideal place for a quiet holiday whilst still being close to the Northumberland Coast.

We are fortunate in having quite a few properties close to Rothbury. For instance:

  1. Riverside Lodge, Rothbury. A 19th century house converted to offer high quality self catering accommodation for up to 4 people.
  2. The Master's Lodge, Rothbury. This is a cosy 2 people semi detached house in what used to be a school.
  3. Tylers Lodge, Rothbury. Another cosy 2 people house with exposed oak beams.
  4. The Old Stables Cottage, Rothbury, offers larger accommodation taking up to 5 people. The building itself is 17th century.

I hope that this gives an idea of the range of properties we have in this delightful area, however if there are any questions just telephone, write or email. We are always here!

Self catering near Craster, Northumberland Coast

One of the pleasures of helping our customers find holiday accommodation in Northumberland is the range of properties which we come across. Many have a history going back hundred's of years and can even be associated with famous people.
For instance we offer accommodation at the Bathing House which is superbly situated by the sea side near Craster. When we first saw this holiday cottage our first thoughts were what a tremendous position, right alongside the sea and with views as well.
However it wasn't until a little later that we heard the full story and learnt that it was built by the 2nd Earl Grey. Yes...the Lord who brought us Earl Grey tea!
So when you are next in Newcastle and walking up Grey Street towards Grey's monument then you can remember where he took his children to swim.
Oh...for those who are curious he also gave his name to Earl Grey tea and Grey College at Durham University.

Self catering accommodation near Hadrian's wall

We often get asked what properties we have near to tourist attractions. We always smile when we get asked about Hadrian's wall though. It is 80 miles long and stretches across the whole of England from coast to coast.

Anyway, to answer the question, we currently have 13 holiday houses for rent near to Hadrian's Wall.

Although the majority of these are along the stretch between Corbridge and Brampton it is worth remembering that a lot of our houses in the Pennines and north towards Kielder are also within easy reach.

So, if you have any more questions just telephone or email and we would be delighted to help
