Gliding, first time airborne

Your 1st take off is very exciting, its bumpy, like a go cart but because you are being towed you have no control, just sit back and enjoy it.

Looking back over 2009 i came across this photograph taken from the cockpit of the Glider as it being towed...just about to be airborne.

The aerodrome at Millfield is convenient for all our Northumberland Cottages in the Glendale area. Basically Glanton, Wooler, Rothbury , Akeld, and of course the College Valley.

Epitath for an Emperor

Hadrian might be remembered for building the Wall, but he was much more than just a civil engineer.

As his death was approaching he wrote this

"Little Soul,little wanderer, little charmer,
body's guest and companion,
to what places will you set out for now?
To darkling, cold and gloomy ones -
and you won't make your usual jokes."

What is a Henge?

We see henges referred to time and time again up here in Northumberland...but what exactly is a henge?

Well this story board from Maelmin helps to answer the question.

Its a circular open air temple. It has an outer earth mound, an inner ditch and uprights of wood or stone.

So the next time you are reading about the ancient history this is what a henge was!
