Alnmouth - Northumberland Coast

Alnmouth NorthumberlandAlnmouth is a popular holiday destination standing on a spur of land formed by the North Sea and the River Aln, 4 miles south east of Alnwick. A massive storm changed the course of the River Aln at Christmas 1806, resulting in the harbour becoming too shallow, cutting off Church Hill and the carved Saxon Cross from the rest of the village. Prior to the storm it owed it’s prosperity to being an important seaport. At one time exporting more grain than Newcastle. The stunning sandy beach can be reached by driving across the village golf course, which is the fourth oldest links course in England.
