Coquetdale - Northumberland
The valley of the river Coquet takes you through some of the most beautiful scenery within Northumberland.
Starting from the western boundary, you drive through the small farming villages of Alwinton, Harbottle and Sharperton. After a short drive you then enter Thropton and into Rothbury itself.
With the Simonside hills to the south and the Cheviot to the north this is great countryside to explore.
Hidden valleys and great walks abound.
As the valley opens out onto the coastal plains it crosses the A697 to Wooler and on towards the coast.
The capital of Coquetdale has always been Rothbury with its market, shops and closeness to Cragside with its gardens and rhododendra.
