Holiday Cottage Description

Situated in peaceful rural surroundings within the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this traditionally furnished, semi-detached stone cottage offers panoramic views overlooking Swinhope Shield. This is an ideal getaway for those wishing to leave behind the hustle and bustle of modern life and enjoy “England’s Last Wilderness”. The area offers abundant opportunitities for walking, cycling and exploring the region. Although now peaceful, the fell sides were once the scene of great industrial activity. The remains of lead and mineral mining are evident across the landscape. Allendale, 5 miles, has friendly pubs, tea rooms and craft shops and gained the Village of the Year Award for England in 2007. Nearby attractions include the market town of Hexham, noted for its seventh century Abbey, excellent shopping, leisure and restaurant facilities. Hadrian’s Wall is a 40 minute drive and the National Trust’s ancient woodlands at Allen Banks are within 10 miles. Further afield, Keilder Water, Newcastle, the Northumbrian Coast, Durham City and the Lake District are a 50 minute drive, therefore, all within reach of the cottages for a day’s excursion. Walking, cycling, golf and horse riding with indoor arena all available nearby.
