Taking your dog on holiday gives you peace of mind that he’ll be happy and well looked after, ensures you’ll have a companion that’s always ready to go exploring AND you’ll save a fortune on kennel costs.

We currently have over 100 pet friendly self-catering cottages on our website in some fantastic locations across Northumbria. Whether you want a coastal retreat where your pooch can paddle in the surf, or a woodland hideaway where you can both ramble through the countryside, we’ve got something to suit you.

Coastal

Every dog loves getting their paws sandy at the beach, so a coastal adventure is sure to please your pup! Northumbria has lots of dog friendly beaches to choose from, you can see the full list here. Here’s our favourite cottages located near the seaside.

Lucker, Near Bamburgh

Swallows Flight (sleeps 5): Nestled in the peaceful hamlet of Lucker, a stone’s throw from Bamburgh, Swallows Flight has recently undergone a complete makeover to offer fantastic holiday accommodation close to the coast. Being an end terraced cottage, the enclosed garden surrounds the rear and side of the property, perfect for chilling out on a summers evening, having a barbecue and enjoying the picturesque open views across fields towards the coast. Pets @ £15 a week

Bamburgh with its magnificent castle and splendid sandy beach is 3 miles, and you can find dog friendly dining at Bailey’s restaurant and the Copper Kettle tearoom to name but a few. The busy fishing port of Seahouses is 6 miles is also host to lots of dog friendly pubs. Boat trips are available during the summer months to observe the sea birds and seal colonies on the Farne Islands. Inland the Cheviots can be reached by quiet country roads which provide superb scenery and excellent walking/mountain biking.

Beadnell

Cloggy Nook (sleeps 4): Cloggy Nook is a sympathetically converted farm building of exceptional quality set in the delightful and quiet rural location of Tughall Steads. It lies a kilometre inland between the lovely bays of Beadnell and Embleton. The Craster Arms welcomes canine guests, and Low Newton-by-the-Sea with its beach and highly regarded Ship Inn is just 5 minutes drive away. Dogs are allowed on all nearby beaches throughout the year and the owners of Cloggy Nook are pleased to welcome all family members including the four-legged ones! 2 pets free of charge – any additional pets by agreement with owner @ £15 per pet per week.

Countryside 

If you love nothing more than discovering the beauty of the countryside with your faithful canine, we think you’ll find the following cottages are perfectly located for your next ramble through the unspoilt Northumbrian wilderness.

Sparty Lea, Near Allendale

Roundhill Cottage (sleeps 4): Nestled on the bank of a tributary of the River Allen, Roundhill Cottage has been painstakingly rebuilt from the ruins of an ancient barn to produce a truly exceptional holiday cottage. This idyllic spot is perfect for peace and relaxation on a get away from it all holiday. To the rear of the cottage there is a sheltered decked balcony which can be accessed through French windows on the landing. It catches the sun at almost any time of day so you can enjoy a meal or immerse yourself in a good novel. 2 pets welcome @ £15 per pet per week. 

This area has been designated An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is renowned for stunning and diverse landscapes and a variety of flora and fauna. The owner has installed owl boxes in the trees in the garden and squirrels and rabbits can occasionally be seen from the windows. Allendale has lots of dog-friendly pubs to relax in and the historic market town of Hexham has an excellent range of amenities. Activities to be found locally are walking, cycling, bird watching and pony trekking.

College Valley near Wooler

The School House (sleeps 4): The former College Valley School has been lovingly renovated to accommodate four people. There is a private enclosed garden (dog proof) with expansive views up the valley to Cheviot. The cottage has a garage and there is plenty of parking space. Dogs are allowed on the hard floored areas in the house. Dogs welcome in kitchen, new purpose built kennels with runs for up to 6 dogs in out building. £15 per pet per week.

The College Valley is an exceptional place, a magical hidden gem in today’s world, once seen never forgotten. The cottage is literally sitting on the foot of the Cheviot Massif in the National Park, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This is a perfect spot for all the countryside has to offer; walking, fishing, golfing, riding, cycling, bird-watching, historic houses, gardens, churches and castles or for driving the short distance to the coast where there are beautiful beaches.

Central

Alnwick 

Pear Tree Cottage (sleeps 4): Pear Tree Cottage is an immaculately presented detached stone cottage situated in a beautiful rural location,   This romantic retreat is perfect for 2 couples looking for a luxury break as it benefits from 2 bedrooms both en-suite, one a double bed and one zip and link bed to make king-size bed or twin beds perfect for families, including cot, highchair and baby bath. The log burning stove in the lounge area creates a cosy warm environment.  There is ample parking just outside the cottage and the pretty garden is a delightful place to relax or for children to play. Dog welcome @ £15 per week.

The cottage is only a 2 minute drive to the village of Longframlington, north of Morpeth or a leisurely 10 minute walk. The village has a park, tennis courts, pubs serving excellent food, Newsagents, award winning general dealers and butchers. Alnwick is also nearby, with lots of dog-friendly attractions including Barter Books and Bailiffgate Museum and Gallery. Cragside Estate and house, Rothbury,  Warkworth Castle and beautiful Northumberland beaches are a 15 minute drive away.

Morpeth

Brambles (sleeps 4): Brambles is a static holiday home nestled in the heart of Felmoor Park just a short drive to the coast and north to the Historic market town of Alnwick famous for the Castle and Gardens. This immaculately presented holiday home is deceptively spacious and ticks all the boxes for a romantic retreat or a family break.  The interior offers excellent quality fixtures and fittings, a lavish leather suite and has French doors opening onto a decked area with a lovely sunny aspect.  There are steps down to a partially screened area which has comfortable patio furniture and a fabulous hot tub to relax in. 1 pet welcome @ £15 charge per week. 

There are some lovely walks around the park passing a nature pond with resident swans, a café/bar and a leisure club which has a gym, sauna, steam room and swim spa. Also in the surrounding area the many activities to enjoy or have lessons include rock climbing, surfing, microlite flights, paint balling, horse riding and kayaking. Eshott Animal Park is on the doorstep. Morpeth is home to lots of pet-friendly places to eat and drink, including the Northumberland Arms and The Ox Inn.
