Four cottages with spectacular sea views | Seahouses

Written by Northumbria Byways on

If you’re thinking of escaping to the seaside, either for a weekend mini-break or a longer holiday, you could do a lot worse than visit the picturesque fishing village of Seahouses, one of the gems of the Northumberland coast – itself an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Known as ‘The Gateway to the Farnes’, due to the ease with which you can visit the beautiful Farne Islands from the village, Seahouses itself boasts sandy beaches, picture postcard views and, of course, delicious freshly caught fish and chips – and is only a few miles from Beadnell and Bamburgh.

In short, it’s an excellent place to base yourself for a trip to the Northumberland coast, and we have a number of excellent cottages from which you can do just that; all of which boast fantastic sea views. Read on for some of the highlights from our range of holiday cottages in Seahouses.

Harbour View

Boasting breathtaking panoramic views over the harbour to the Farne Islands, this quayside property is only 100 metres from a sandy beach and is in easy walking distance of all village amenities. Harbour View comfortably accommodates up to 6 people, with two twin rooms on the ground floor and a double bedroom with en suite shower room on the second floor. All rooms have harbour views, while the first floor open plan living/dining room opens out onto a balcony that lets you take in the refreshing sea breeze.

Harbourside

This lovingly restored former fisherman’s cottage overlooking the quayside has every modern facility yet retains its historical fishing past. With a double and a twin room on the ground floor, Harbourside sleeps 4 people – who can enjoy taking in the cottage’s unparalleled seascape views from the large picture window in the open plan lounge on the first floor, or from the balcony that it leads out to. An exposed stone wall and log effect electric fire give the room a homely feel. This is an ideal base for exploring the area – just minutes away from the pier where boats venture to the Farne Islands and Longstone Lighthouse, and a short stroll from the village’s many amenities.

The Farne Islands

We recently took a trip to the Farne Islands to see the nesting seabirds, there was plenty of them as you can see from our video below! This is something we highly recommend doing during your stay in Northumbria, it’s a great day out and there’s lots of boats waiting to take you out from Seahouses harbour during the summer months, just hop on and go.

Make sure you bring a pair of binoculars to help you spot all the different species of birds that visit the island each year, which includes puffins, Arctic terns, guillemots, razorbills, eiders and shags. If you’re lucky you might also find some seals bobbing around in the sea or basking on the rocks in the spring sunshine. Diving tours can be booked throughout the year if you want to see what the seals get up to under the water.

Ditch the car and see Northumbria’s beautiful coastline by bus!

A collection of new journey planners are now available to make bus travel easier for visitors to the north Northumberland Coast. The planners have been designed by NNTA and the Northumberland Coast AONB Partnership, in conjunction with Arriva, to give visitors all of the information they need to easily explore the area without having to use their car.

Each journey planner tells visitors how to get to all of the major attractions and destinations in the area – including which buses to catch nearby, how long the journeys take and information about any connections. The A4 sheets also include some suggested itineraries and information about discounts and tickets.

There are a range of eight journey planners based on several communities along the coast, and each can be downloaded via these links on the AONB blog.
