Tucked away in the centre of the pretty village of Harbottle in the heart of the Northumberland National Park Bonny Barn is a hidden gem. Having been lovingly refurbished this quirky little cottage provides a romantic retreat in a tranquil rural setting, and from the terraced garden there are stunning views across open countryside. At the top of the garden there is a summer house which guests are welcome to use. The owner takes great pride in the garden and can provide guests with seasonal vegetables as they are harvested. The many trips to be enjoyed could include the Scottish Borders, the Heritage Coastline, Hadrian's Wall, Kielder Water and the many historic castles and stately homes such as Cragside and Wallington Hall. Avid walkers can begin a day out on the moors direct from the door of the cottage. There is a lovely walk of about 5 miles from Harbottle Castle up to see the Drakestone, a massive sandstone block which rests high on a hill above Harbottle. In Druid folklore the stone is said to have healing powers. From the top there are wonderful views overlooking Harbottle Lough, the Coquet Valley and across to the Cheviot Hills. Walking, cycling, fishing, climbing all available in the area.

Back for our 2nd visit to Bonny Barn following Great North Run. Ann was again a great host. The homemade apricot chutney was fab... but the lemon drizzle cake....OMG!!
Syd and Carol, London, Sept 2015
I and my 2 dogs had such a lovely far too short stay here in the Bonny Barn. It is so comfortable and well equipped and we all slept very well in this lovely quaint spot. The weather's not been great but could've been a lot worse and hey - this is England in June so what can you expect. Anne really is the loveliest host and Harbottle a very friendly village. We will be back.

Thank you Anne for such a wonderful warm welcome to the North East. We have had a wonderful week with all our family (total 21!!) for my 70th birthday. We appreciated and enjoyed the birthday cake very much. The weather has been good, scenery magnificent from the coast to the Scottish Border. Thank you Bonny Barn, thank you Northumberland and BIG thank you again to Anne for your welcome and hospitality.

Thank you Ann for a most wonderful adventure. We don't stop often, but we are so glad we got to stay here a while. The salad was amazing, cheese scones yum yum and cake lovely. I don't know how you have time with the 3 gardens, Show and 10 tonnes of pebbles. Big love and lickies to Mitzy and a big thank you again to you.

Wow!! We have found heaven on earth. Ann and Mitzi greeted us on our arrival on Saturday with a lovely cup of tea. This is so beautiful from the Bonny Barn to the surrounding village. So peaceful and such a friendly community. I wish I could live here. Anne was so kind from wine, cakes, scones, salad to all the little walks and places to visit. Beautifully decorated throughout with more than everything you need. I hope to return soon to see you and Mitzi. Thank you for everything.
