Description

Tucked away off the main thoroughfare of Alnmouth village this compact hideaway cottage is a true delight.

With either two double bedrooms or a double bedroom and second upstairs sitting room, the cottage is within easy walking distance of the beach, the river estuary, a choice of pubs, restaurants, hotels and cafe. The local post office and gift shop are just around the corner, or enjoy the relaxing atmosphere of the cottage with a good book or two or even allow yourselves time to read the whole of the Sunday paper in a day!

Alnmouth, extremely popular in summer, retains its charm with narrow streets, numerous alleyways and footpath walks. The tidal river estuary is often awash with activity. Close at hand are both Foxton and Alnmouth Links golf courses and miles of glorious sandy beaches lie to the north and south. Follow the alleyway leading to the main village and walk to a different pub or restaurant each night - particularly recommended is the local cuisine at The Red Lion and enjoy a meal in front of their open fire!

Platone welcomes well behaved dogs. When you book you will be asked to provide some information about your pet which will aide the owner in ensuring that the property is set up to welcome them.

A bit of K9 ettiquette should be observed during your stay:-

  • Your pet should not be left in the property unattended (unless crated)
  • Your pet should not be allowed in the bedrooms or on furniture
  • On booking for your pet, you are confirming that it is fully up to date on its flea treatment.

Platone Cittage is in a lovely quiet location and just a short walk from the stunning beach. The cottage is quirky, small but beautifully formed! It's very cosy with responsive heating and the kitchen is well equipped. The bed is extremely comfortable though difficult to access as there is very little room either side. The dedicated parking space is an added bonus. The bottle of prosecco and biscuits were a nice touch. Alnmouth is a great place to stay with great eateries and really friendly people. - 10th October 2018

Beautiful compact cottage, perfect for a couple. As other reviews have said, access to parking is tight (mostly thanks to an abandoned car on the lane!) but there is plenty on road available, which we made use of. - 18th July 2018
The on-line descript ion t icked all the boxes. The cottage lived-up to expectation . S it uated in a quiet locat ion ,it is comfortable and sympat het i cally rest ored . Wood panelling gives it a seaside feel . The beautiful expanse of sandy beach is a minute away ( dogs allowed ) Good pubs/restaurants , deli and village shop around the corner . Parking is a bonus , not all houses in Alnmouth have an allocated space ..We have a C3 Picasso and found little difficulty in parking . A large car/SUV ( not recommended for touring the by-ways and lanes of Northumberland) would find it difficult to park . A friendly and welcoming village .We will be back . - 16th June 2018
This was our fourth visit to Platone cottage which in itself speaks volumes. The new owners have changed very little maintaining the high standard of comfort and facilities inside. The cottage is centrally placed down a quiet lane with a small parking space. The inside is quite cwerky with uneven floors and stairs which all add to the character of the cottage. The bed in the small second bedroom is a seems like a futon style which was very hard and uncomfortable. However the bed in the main bedroom was very comfortable. I normally have trouble sleeping for a few nights in a strange bed, but not this one, I slept like a log. There is a space under the open stairs which is perfect for a dog bed. There is also a good boot and coat area with a coir floor covering when you enter the cottage. There is a small yard/garden area which has a gate so is perfect for letting your four legged friend out for for a first and last pee. When we arrived the owners had left us some milk, sugar, biscuits and coffee and tea bags which is always handy after a long drive. In the fridge they had left us a bottle of prosecco (thank you). The pubs in the village are all good and dog friendly and serve very good food (food in the Schooner is not so good). The local post office in the village sells almost everything you need. There are loads of great walks from the village, going straight onto the beach. The locals are all really friendly and seem genuinely interested in what you do and where you are from. As for Platone cottage, I'm sure we'll be back, we have done so far. - 11th February 2018

Very much enjoyed our stay. The cottage is lovely and had everything we needed for a very comfortable stay. The access and parking can be tight and be a challenge at times. Great stay in the centre of the beautiful seaside village of Almouth. 'Platone' cottage is very comfortable, clean and well equipped, with a good kitchen and very comfy beds. The cottage was very well equipped and comfortably furnished. It was ideal for the two of us and our terrier Ted. We stayed for a week in August at Platone cottage and highly recommend it. There are 4 of us - 2 adults, one 5 year old child and one 15 month old. The location is great, tucked away, but only 1 minute walk to all the cafes and shops in Amble and about 4 minutes walk to the beach. The cottage is cosy in style and for size, though there is enough space to spend a wet afternoon inside together, but we found that to be a good incentive for getting out and exploring. We had a great stay at Platone, John the owner was very helpful and attentive, he provided high chair and stair gate for our youngest and offered a cot too. Excellent cottage in 'quaint' location, very well equiped, good access to village and local area. Great value for money, can't fault it. Alnmouth is a lovely spot;within easy reach of Alnwick, Warkworth and Amble, and it's only half an hour's drive to Lindisfarne. We had a wonderful few days in this delightful cottage. Perfectly situated for the beach, shops, pubs and its in a quiet tucked away location. The owner met us upon our arrival to show us around and give us some info on the area. The cottage was well stocked with basics and there was even a bottle of wine chilling in the fridge. It was extremely clean and well maintained throughout. We hope to return and would not hesitate in recommending this cottage and village. We got home feeling rejuvenated. Platone is a charming but small cottage. It is quite narrow throughout but this adds to its uniqueness. Good for couples but might feel a bit cramped for larger parties. Good situation for access to the beach and town. Parking is a bit tight. - 21st October 2015

This was a lovely homely cottage which was very well equipped, clean and just a minutes walk away from the Main Street and the main amenities. It was quiet, had its own private parking and we loved it. We must make mention of the owner John who made us very welcome and very kindly gave us a lift to and from the railway station for an excursion to Edinburgh. We would highly recommend this holiday rental and can't wait to return. - 3rd September 2015

Platone Cottage provided a cosy and comfortable centre for our second visit in 3 years. Alnmouth is sufficiently busy (in April)to have good facilities for eating-out to supplement meals at this self-catering cottage. Car-parking area at the cottage is larger than before, but access remains too small for many larger cars and 4x4's. (A common problem in Alnmouth itself). Platone cottage was great for the 2 of us and the dog (bit of a squeeze if there were 4). The sun shone into the upstairs sitting room(otherwise a bedroom) to make a pleasant reading seat in the window bay. The cottage was well stocked with crockery, kitchen appliances, books, DVDs/CDs. Alnmouth village has excellent shops, cafes and pubs/restaurants within a couple of minutes walk and the beaches are glorious. A superb holiday location for hills or coast as well as places of interest from Cragside to Alnwick Gardens. - 15th April 2015
