Seahouses & Beadnell Holiday Cottages
Seahouses is a fishing town on the Northumberland coast, 15 miles North East of the market town of Alnwick which sits between the coastal villages of Bamburgh and Beadnell. Seahouses is also known as ‘Gateway to the Farne Islands’ and is a very popular all year round as a ‘go-to’ holiday destination due to its excellent amenities, shops, restaurants, cafes and pubs.
Take a stroll along the lively harbour, visit the RNLI Seahouses Lifeboat station and see the Mersey lifeboat ‘Grace Darling’ up close before taking a scenic boat trip bound for the Farne Islands. As one of Europe’s most important bird sanctuaries and home to 20 different species including the popular Puffins and Terns, the National Trust’s Farne Islands are also home to one of the biggest grey seal colonies in the British Isles. There is even the possibility of spotting friendly dolphins, porpoises and whales on the boat ride. There are various different boat trips that run daily, from bird watching tours, grey-seal tours and the Grace Darling Tour, which takes visitors to Longstone Island to visit the lighthouse where this great Northumbrian Heroine lived. You can also land on Inner Farne and experience wildlife up close.
Back on the main land and feeling a bit peckish, dine in one of the superb fish and chip shops that Seahouses has to offer, before heading to the beach for an afternoon of seaside fun, visit the Farne Islands gift shop (a real-life Aladdin’s Cave) to purchase your fishing net, bucket and spade!
Seahouses beach is not only stunning with the backdrop of Bamburgh Castle, but it is great for rock pooling adventures and building ‘mini’ Bamburgh Castle’s as well as a refreshing stroll along the pristine sandy beach. You can also take a dip in the sea (should you feel brave enough!) as the North East coast has some of the cleanest stretches of coastline in the country.
Before returning to the comfort of your holiday cottage in Seahouses to cook up a tasty evening meal, browse the lovely shops picking up a treat or two and indulge in a delicious ice-cream from Coxons. Take a seat on the harbour, relax and enjoy the views out to sea across to the Farne Islands, while watching the sun set and the colourful fishing boats arrive back in the harbour after a day at sea.
