Description

4 star gold

This beautiful Northumbrian holiday cottage is an amazing example of a contemporary renovation in a traditional shell. This is, without doubt, one of the oldest properties in the area, and this quaint traditional fisherman's cottage has been in the Stewart family for well over a century and a half.
Now lovingly restored by Geoff Stewart, an accomplished carpenter, the holiday cottage has been brought right into the 21st century with a modern well equipped finish. Whilst retaining features such as the inglenook fireplace, Geoff and Pat have undertaken a full and thorough renovation of this cottage, even down to handcrafting the latch doors throughout. The workmanship is stunning. The cottage is compact and functional - that's the tradition of the cottages the fisher folk lived in - but Pat and Geoff have made sure that you've all the convenience and quality you'd expect and more, in this quaint home from home.

The cottage is close to all the village amenities - shops, butchers, bakers (no candlestick maker tho), pubs & restaurants, newsagents, petrol station, library, takeaways, and the harbour where you can leave on excursions to visit the Farne Islands, to see puffins (June & July), grey seals and many other species of birds. The area is popular with birdwatchers and photographers.

Just 2.5 miles up the coast by road is Bamburgh and its wonderful castle on a rocky outcrop overlooking the beach, and 15 miles south you'll find Alnwick Castle and Garden a popular spot for those with green fingers, and Harry Potter fans (the castle was Hogwarts and the site of the quiddich pitch in the 1st two films).

Reviews

Powder House is a gem of a cottage just off the harbour, spotlessly clean, warm, cosy and well equipped , great for a family of 4. It has a lovely welcoming homely feel about it and perfectly positioned in Seahouses. We've stayed in several cottages in Seahouses and this is head and shoulders above the rest! Great little garden too. The harbour is literally a few metres away so you can have your morning cuppa sat on a bench watching the sunrise over towards the magnificent Bamburgh Castle. The owners are very kind and go to a lot of effort to make guests feel at home in a very respectful way. We'll be booking for a 2nd visit for sure! Thank you Pat and Geoff. - 26th April 2019
Really enjoyed our short stay at Powder House, Pat and Geoff; the owners were very welcoming, the house was perfect in terms of location and cleanliness. Couldn't ask for anything more. Would definitely come back again. - 24th November 2017
My husband and I stayed at Powder House in September 2017, the cottage was lovely cosy, and clean, Pat and Geoff had thought of everything so it made our stay even more special. There was no downside to our stay at all. We don't usually go to the same place twice but if we do visit Sea Houses again we will be sure to book Powder House. - 2nd October 2017
A cosy, relaxing retreat by the sea. The owners were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. - 15th August 2017
From start to finish our short break was excellent - the welcome, the cottage and the weather! Our 5 year old grandson availed himself of all the garden had to offer - climbing dome, swings, bike, games and alfresco dining. Excellent service, extremely comfortable and equipped to a high standard. We will certainly be back. - 19th May 2017
The Powder House had everything you need whether staying for a few days or a fortnight. Pat had thought of everything and the kitchen was better equipped than my own at home! We loved the pretty setting with the little square of fishermen's cottages and flowers around the door. The welcome we received made our stay a very happy one. - 25th June 2016
Powder house came to us recommended by friends. Excellent throughout; provided everything that was necessary to make our stay welcoming, comfortable and enjoyable. Pat and Geoffrey are expert at what they do. They went beyond to make sure that experience would be one to remember. The only thing that could not provide was the weather. But this is Britain! We would certainly return and recommend the cottage to anyone contemplating a stay in Seahouses. Our thanks for the experience. Ten out of ten. - 31st May 2016
Really enjoyed our stay at Powder House. Pat and Geoff were very welcoming and helpful. The cottage was beautiful very well maintained everything to hand and nothing forgotten. We loved the conservatory and patio garden and often sat out for coffee or lunch. We look forward to another visit . - 4th August 2015
A very warm welcome awaited us, thank you Pat - 31st July 2015
This was the best holiday cottage we've ever been to. Friendly, helpful hosts nearby; generous welcome tray; well equipped with everything we could possibly want; very clean; we couldn't fault it. Weather was glorious, but there were plenty of books and games there had we needed them. Very near the harbour at Seahouses, very convenient for town, boat trips or sightseeing. Excellent all round. - 16th June 2015
we had a wonderful holiday at Powder House Cottage , the cottage is perfect and thoughtfully presented. Pat and Geoff are helpful friendly hosts and couldn't be more friendly. We would certainly recommend it as a lovely holiday destination. - 22nd July 2014
We had a lovely holiday at Powder Cottage. Your every need had been catered for and we will certainly recommend it to our friends and hope to revisit in the near future. - 8th April 2014
