Description

This is, without doubt, one of the oldest properties in the area.

This quaint traditional fisherman's cottage with its own garden, has been in the Stewart family for well over a century and a half. Now lovingly restored by Geoff Stewart, an accomplished carpenter, the cottage has been brought into the 21st century but retains many of its original features and much of its character, not least in its furnishings, many pieces are family heirlooms like the gorgeous marble topped wash stands dotted about the place and the fantastic bed linen which has also been in the family for years - rich white embroidered cotton which is personally laundered by Pat to ensure its pristine condition.

Only a couple of minutes walk from the cottage and you are on the top of the harbour wall, where seating is provided so you can while away the hours watching the toings and froings of harbour life, or stretch your legs on the beautiful beaches which run North and South and are ideal for leisurely walks, or for those more adventurous try the 6 mile return beach walk to Bamburgh, or the 14 mile return journey to Newton by the Sea (great pub awaits for the mid walk break). The cottage is close to all the village amenities - shops, butchers, bakers, pubs & restaurants, newsagents, petrol station, library, resource centre for internet access, takeaways, and the harbour where you can leave on excursions to visit the Farne Islands, to see puffins (June & July), grey seals and many other species of birds. The area is popular with birdwatchers and photographers.

Reviews

We had an absolutely fabulous time at Clam Shell Cottage. Everything was in wonderful condition, the décor, furnishings, utensils and it felt very homely. Mrs Rosie Withey - 22nd September 2019
Fabulous cottage Fabulous hosts Fabulous weather Fabulous garden area for the grand kids One of the best if not thee best equipped cottages we have ever stayed in What more can you ask Thank you Pat - 31st October 2018
I couldn't fault Clam Shell Cottage. Spotlessly clean and comfortable. A home from home with every gadget you'd need. The garden and facilities for children are particularly good. Pat and Geoff are perfect hosts. Would definitely recommend for a perfect holiday. - 10th October 2017
Everything you could need and more. The owners couldn't do enough for you. Perfect location. The garden is a great bonus especially for children. Would definitely recommend. - 27th August 2017
The cottage was very well equipped the owner's had thought of everything with added touches which was very nice. Unfortunately they were digging up the road and parking was hazardous although the owner's did all they could to help, consequently we have a scrape on the car. - 18th August 2017
A wonderful reception from Pat and Geoff on our arrival, we found the cottage very clean and very well appointed. We also had a welcome pack which was much appreciated. The owners are very friendly and very helpful regarding our questions on local history and the surrounding areas. We would not hesitate to recommend this venue to others, all in all a very pleasant stay with very nice people. - 20th July 2017
A birthday present proved to be 'the most memorable' holiday. The weather was kind, the expeditions (Bamburgh, Warkworth, Alnwick, Berwick, Craster , Farnes and Holy Island) not too exhausting for ageing limbs, and the hosts were ideal. Loved the guided tour of Seahouses. We knew the region but parents didn't......no more Barbados for them. Thanks to Pat - 21st June 2017
Fantastic cottage with everything you could imagine needing and more. Just like home from home. Great having our hosts next door who couldn't do enough for us. They gave us all the information we wanted about the area which was new to us so we didn't miss anything. All the little extras that were provided made us feel really welcome. Hope to return in the not too distant future. - 6th July 2016
We come to seahouses every year and have stayed in many different places but Clam shell cottage is the most stunning property we have ever stayed in. Mr - 10th September 2015
