This lovely detached house, tucked away behind the main street in this historic Northumbrian coastal village, provides comfortable accommodation and modern amenities including high-speed internet, in a picturesque setting. Warkworth itself is almost completely encircled by the River Coquet, and is dominated by the splendid mediaeval castle perched high on a mound only 200 yards from Rookery Nook Cottage. Half a mile up river is the famous Hermitage, a rock-hewn retreat with a very poignant history; it is quite unique in England and can only be reached by a guided rowing boat. Being within walking distance of a superb stretch of sandy beach and having some of the most lovely river scenery in the county, it is not surprising that Warkworth is a popular holiday location. The village is well served by pubs, restaurants and a patisserie, there is also a well-stocked village store and Post Office a short walk from the cottage. Alnwick, 5 miles to the North, it is home to the Duke of Northumberland and famous for its Castle and garden, open to the public, both have featured in films and television. Alnwick is also home to Barter Books, a huge second hand bookshop set inside an old Victorian railway station. Amble 2 miles south, has a marina and offers local shops, harbour village, award winning ice cream palour, fishing trips and weekend markets. Excellent golf is available in Warkworth itself and at several courses along the coast..

A very enjoyable week staying in Rookery Nook. During the 'heat wave'. The cottage was nice and cool, with a pleasant breeze blowing over the garden. We had three lovely days on the beach and our investment in wet suits proved fruitful, since the North Sea was not partaking in the record high temperatures hitting the rest of the UK. Alnwick Garden was beautiful as always. Food at the Masons Arms was good; for the first time ever my daughter was unable to finish the enormous pizza she had there. We all enjoyed visiting Warkworth Castle.J Webb - 22nd July 2018
Our 2nd visit to this lovely cottage. Thank you for the warm welcome via the welcome basket - a nice touch, we did enjoy the contents. Have enjoyed walks from the cottage in all directions and also 2 visits to Hauxley N.W.T Reserve - highly recommended if you like birds and home-made scones! The local Masons Arms serves good food and good value. Get there early! Local beaches are clean and walkable form here, and great for dogs and beachcombing. Cottage peaceful, comfortable and well-located. Enjoyed watching & listening to all the wonderful birds, bird song and bats at dusk. We've had a thoroughly relaxing & enjoyable week.Shirley & David, Blackheath - 19th May 2018
We have had a wonderful week in Rookery Nook. The beds are so lovely and comfortable after lovely long walks along the various beaches. We have walked miles & miles every day and we have always enjoyed coming back "Home" to sit with a glass of wine on the bench in the garden listening to all the birds. Food at the Mason Arms great value and huge portions. Post great for supplies (Bacon very nice). Thank you for making our holiday perfect, the welcome basket was much appreciated and the cottage was lovely and clean. We will definitely return here again.Mandy & Nigel F, North Yorkshire - 6th May 2018
