Holiday Cottages By the Coast
The Northumberland Coast is an award-winning holiday destination and it is not hard to understand why. With more than 30 miles of beautiful sandy beaches along the designated Area of Natural Beauty (AONB) Northumberland Coastline, stretching from Berwick-upon-Tweed to the Coquet Estuary, you will always be able to find a secluded spot, if you simply want to get away from it all! The majority of beaches in Northumberland are dog-friendly all year round, ensuring all the family can enjoy a refreshing stroll along the beach, rock pooling, sand castle fun and even a paddle in the sea!
From many of the beaches, you can not only enjoy the fantastic coastal views but also those of the Farne Islands, Holy Island and Coquet Island and some of the castles which provide stunning viewpoints along the rugged coastline such as Bamburgh Castle, Dunstanburgh Castle and Lindisfarne Castle. In fact, Northumberland has more castles than any other county in England.
Many of our coastal holiday cottages offer fantastic sea views and are ideally situated for exploring the many coastal fishing villages, towns and harbours. For instance, staying in the village of Seahouses, all the local amenities are within easy reach, including gift shops, restaurants, coffee shops and grocery stores. From the harbour, you can book a trip to the Farne Islands, where there are daily tours of the islands. Visit Longstone Lighthouse, the former home of Grace Darling and see an array of wildlife with lots of seals all year round and seabirds including the famous Puffins.
A trip to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne is recommended during your stay, drive across the causeway to the island and visit the birthplace of the Lindisfarne Gospels, explore the ruins of the priory and visit Lindisfarne Castle where you can enjoy stunning views across the coast and spot a seal or two! Sample the local Lindisfarne Mead in St. Aidan’s Winery and pick up a souvenir or two.
Whether you enjoy walking, cycling, water sports, wildlife spotting or horse-riding, there is a great range of activities for all the family to enjoy at the Northumberland Coast.
