Escape to the peace and tranquillity of the North Tyne Valley for a romantic retreat, set within the grounds of Grade 2 Listed Manor House with breathtaking views over the North Tyne Valley and beyond.
The Manor House Shepherds Hut is within the small village of Birtley, Northumberland which stands high on a ridge 700 feet above sea level. It commands superb panoramic views over the North Tyne valley, and beyond to the North Pennines, the Wark Forest and northwards to the Cheviots. Birtley is popular with walkers and cyclists alike.
This authentic shepherds hut, hand built to a superb standard, stands in a private spot over-looking the paddock, home to the resident Alpacas. Sit back, relax with a glass of wine to witness some magical sunsets and listen to the evening birds’ song.
As darkness falls feast your eyes on thousands of stars that cover the sky, as this is one of the best areas in the UK for star-gazing. Take a stroll along the banks of the North Tyne River to experience the abundance of wildlife including red squirrels, deer and otters. The market town of Hexham is 12 miles south. Here you will find along with excellent shopping, a mediaeval abbey, Hexham Gaol, a swimming pool and golf course. The historic village of Corbridge is nearby and dates back to Roman times. The 7th Century church in the market place was built in part with stones from the “Wall”. There is a delightful range of independent shops, cafes and pubs. Corbridge is also a short drive away, known as “The Jewel in the Northumberland Crown” for its rich Roman history, unique boutique shops, bars, restaurants and river walks.
The village of Wark, offering local services and a selections of pubs, including award winning Battlesteads pub, is a 2 mile walk/drive. Walwick Hall, newly converted Grade 2 Listed hotel is also within a 10 minute drive, offering fine dining/afternoon tea/licensed bar and pool/spa.
The closest of the many forts and settlements on Hadrian's Wall is Chesters (8 miles) whilst those at Housesteads and Vindolanda are all within a short drive. Kielder Water is 24 miles and offers excellent walking, mountain biking, sailing, windsurfing and fishing.
