The market town of Rothbury nestles on the banks of the River Coquet. The origins of the town date back to long before the Norman Conquest. Nowadays it has a good range of shops, pubs and cafes. Down by the river there are some charming riverside walks and the opportunity to fish for trout and salmon. This is a good location from which to visit the area's many attractions. Cragside House and Gardens, former home of Lord Armstrong, and the first house to be lit by hydro-electric power, is 6 miles. Alnwick with the famous Alnwick Castle and Gardens, 15 miles. The Heritage coast, Hadrian's Wall and Kielder Water are all within 40 minutes by car. Excellent golf, pony trekking and riding available locally.
