Wooler and Cheviots Holiday Cottages
Located at the foot of the Cheviot Hills and on the edge of the Northumberland National Park sits the bustling market town of Wooler. A holiday cottage in Wooler provides an excellent base for exploring this stunning rural area of Northumberland, popular with walkers and cyclists as there are lots of cycle paths and excellent walking routes to be explored in the Glendale valley and the wider Northumberland National Park area. Wooler also provides a great base for those wanting to visit the Scottish Borders which is just over 15 miles by car.
The town centre itself has lots to offer visitors on its main street including a lovely selection of pubs, restaurants, butchers, café’s and gift shops. Nearby are some great walks from Wooler which will take you up the Cheviot Hills and into the Northumberland National Park. Other activities such as horse riding, fishing and rock climbing are also popular in this area.
Once a year on August Bank Holiday, Wooler plays host to the fantastic Glendale Show. This event showcases and celebrates rural life with lots of fun animal shows for all the family including sheep racing and there are some great opportunities to pick up some local crafts and produce for you to take home.
The nearby Ford and Etal Estate provides a lovely family day out. Attractions here include the Heatherslaw Bakery and corn mill which you can take a tour around. Catch a steam train ride on the Heatherslaw Light Railway that takes you through scenic countryside before arriving at the picture postcard village of Etal where you can visit Etal Castle and the friendly local pub – The black Bull and highly recommended is the Lavender Tearooms for some tasty home baked treats!
Days out exploring the Northumberland Area of Natural Beauty coastline are a must – just 30 minutes by car, you can be walking along the golden sandy shores of Bamburgh, Holy Island, Seahouses or Beadnell.
For the brave, a visit to Chillingham Castle is a must, thought to be one of the most haunted castles in Britain, a day out exploring the fascinating rooms inside the castle and the beautiful surrounding gardens and estate are sure to be memorable.
