This unusual timber clad chalet stands in its own garden within the grounds of an historic house, with origins reputedly dating back to Viking times. Once the gardener's residence, it now provides a cosy retreat ideal for walkers. Nestling at the foot of the Cheviot Hills, on the edge of the Northumberland National Park, it is surrounded by superb countryside. A stile leads from the garden directly onto the fells and an abundance of local footpaths make this an ideal location for walkers, mountain bikers and particularly attractive to ornithologists. The beautiful Harthope Valley is just up the road with access from there to Cheviot itself, to the east is the attractive Till Valley. Chillingham Castle is 8 miles and the coast is just 20 minutes by car. There are numerous castles, stately homes and historic sites within easy distance. The market town of Wooler is 1 mile. Golf, horse riding and bike hire nearby.

Nestling in the lee of National Park the Bothy is a delightful small property designed as a haven. You can walk from the Bothy and it is located ideally for coast or further exploration (including the exceptional Harthope Valley a mile and half by car away).
The Bothy is simply but comfortably furnished. Kitchen-diner with a wood burning stove; electric cooker/oven, microwave and dishwasher (which we struggled with). The living room has a comfortable two seater sofa plus two singles - ideal for relaxing and playing games in. Bedrooms are warm and homely and the bathroom is well equipped (with an elegant roll top bath).
There are chairs and a table outside and we enjoyed the procession of birds to the table.
It is not the ritzy-ist place but it is idyllic and lovely to return to after a day exploring the beauty of Northumberland
